Celebrating World Cleanup Day 2024
As World Cleanup Day approaches on 20 September 2024, it's time to reflect on our collective responsibility to tackle the global waste crisis and promote environmental sustainability. This annual event mobilises millions of people across the globe to take action against mismanaged waste, fostering a cleaner and healthier planet for all.
About World Cleanup Day
World Cleanup Day is a global event aimed at combating the issue of solid waste, including marine debris. Observed on 20 September each year, it is one of the largest civic movements of our time, uniting participants from over 190 countries. The goal is to activate 5% of the world's population to catalyse lasting societal change in behaviour around waste management.
The theme for World Cleanup Day 2024 is "Make Room For Life!" This campaign focuses on reducing waste to create a cleaner, healthier environment for everyone.
Your role in reducing waste
At epicresolutions.org, we empower individuals to create personalised, actionable resolutions that align with their societal roles and the causes they care about. In honour of World Cleanup Day, we have better aligned our list of curated resolutions with the event's goals. Here are a few highlights:
- As a parent or caregiver, I model sustainable behaviours.
- As a citizen, I support political parties that champion sustainability.
- As a consumer, I choose sustainably sourced and produced products.
While cleanups are a significant step, they are not the ultimate solution to the global waste crisis. Only lasting changes in behaviour towards overproduction, consumption patterns, legislation, and more will solve this crisis. We hope our resolutions reflect that. For a full list of resolutions tailored to your interests, go to epicresolutions.org and compile your list.
Get involved
This World Cleanup Day, we invite you to take action and make a difference. Here's how you can get involved:
- Join a Cleanup: Join a local cleanup event. Check the Cleanup Map to find an event near you.
- Learn about Environmental Sustainability: Many organisations and communities run educational programmes to teach people about the impact of waste and how to reduce it. Check out the SEEP programme toolbox by Let's Do It World for example.
- Adopt Sustainable Practices: Beyond the event, commit to reducing waste in your daily life by recycling, composting, and choosing sustainable products.
Tip for everyday action
You don't have to wait until World Cleanup Day - start an individual cleanup habit by picking up trash along your regular routes!
Together, we can create a cleaner, healthier planet for generations to come. Let's make every day World Cleanup Day.
